InCrEdIbLe♥

Yesterday Landon and I had the opportunity to go and listen to Kim Peek speak. For those of you who don't know, Kim was the inspiration for the movie, "Rain Man." Kim was born with some major neurological abnormalities and at birth the doctor told his parents that Kim should be placed in an institution. His parents disagreed and were astonished when he started reading and retaining knowledge at a very young age. Kim has major disabilities and cannot shower, dress or do many simple tasks alone. Yet yesterday he was able to tell students what day of the week they were born on, and what day they will turn 65 based upon their birth date. He was able to tell students their zip codes and how to get to their home town no matter the location. He was charming and unbelievably knowledgeable. He has completely memorized the old and new testament and can recall the page numbers and content of thousands of books. He was inspiring and truly made me reconsider what we would typically call "handicapped." I am so glad that I was able to be in the presence of such an incredible human being. He really touched me with his message.
(P.S. I got to hold his Oscar from the movie, "Rain Man!"

"I might be different to you, but you are different to me too." -Kim Peek

This One's For The Girls

Just was thinkin... I sure am glad for the estrogens in my life. Who else would understand when your jeans are feelin' a little tight, your hair seems frizzier than yesterday (if possible), you can't decide between heels or flats, or you just found a screamin' deal at Victoria's Secret? Mostly though, I'm just grateful for my huge cell phone bill, which only means one thing... I've got some women in my life that mean the world to me. Ode to the ladies!

Many not pictured... you know who you are:)

....AnD aLl ThAt JaZz...

My fabulously generous and wondrously connected father hooked us up with some great Jazz tickets last night! We had so much fun... I have never gone to a Jazz game without having to bring babywipes to clean the blood off my nose. Not yesterday, oh no... no wipies in sight. It was So much fun being so close to the floor! Linda and Carter came with us and Carter was SO THRILLED about the whole thing. We went to the game early so that Landon could help Carter get some autographs... I think they ended up getting like six.

Last night was the Bear's birthday, so they had all the mascots from the other teams come to celebrate with him. Mascots... I think I have found my calling. Doing crazy things to people in total anonymity... yes please.
Kyle Korver.... need I say more. When I was taking pictures of him, this little couple was like "You can come right here and get a better angle of him." I replied, "Oh... that's ok. I'm his girlfriend." Que the great reaction from little couple....

I'm so glad Landon and Carter are such good little buddies. Landon hopes our baby boys are like Carter... loving sports, games and pretty much everything boy. I am secretly afraid we might get a manllerina. (Which I will love equally)

We were behind the basket so we got to do the utterly obnoxious banging together of "cheer stix", which Linda and I were thrilled about and took total credit whenever someone missed their foul shot.

Landon was so entrenched in the game. He has been so excited for the day to come... now that it's over I'm worried about what I will blackmail him with. No more, "Clean up your underwear or I won't take you to the Jazz game." Darn it.

Last but not least, the fabulous D-Will. Who was actually not so fabulous last night. Played pretty crappy, did not do autographs and did not run away with me. There is always next time! Thanks for the great time, Dad! We had so much fun. And Linda... here's to you. That game might have been pretty lonely for me without you. I love you guys so much! Go Jazz!

I say all the right things...

I whine just the right amount, and I beg to know what time he will be back.... sometimes I walk him to the door, and others I call him on his way there. But when he is gone, I throw on a mask, take a long bath, watch all the chick flicks I want.... and he doesn't even know that I secretly love his Wednesday night meetings.

ReCeNt HaPpEnInGs...

'Tis I! The inconsistent blogger. With school pretty slow, holidays over, and no formal job to speak of... the excuses for not blogging are escaping me. Washing my hair? Out of the country? Riding off in the sunset with my super romantic husband? ....  Ya right. So in place of interesting and fascinating blog news:

Hey Mom! Look what we finished.....
(I guess I just invented my own excuse for not blogging, that's 1,000 pieces y'all)
Also, I have somehow landed the coveted position of Friday evening permanent positionated baby-sitter of Hallie Brynne. I have managed to capture a grin on camera. I don't have kids, but for those of you who do... what's up with just staring at kids and being fully amused? I found myself taking pictures of her feet, her hands... I know, this is not my child. Which makes this all the more weird.

She loves cuddling with me. When she can speak I am going to teach her to call me "Favorite Aunt Once Removed by Adoption Che". We are going to be besties. Until the next ten days when I stare at the computer and my camera, and wonder what useless information I can share....

Freedom Of Choice...

I'm not really one to get political, and I don't often share my views publicly. But lately I have been hearing a lot about the Freedom of Choice Act. This new act will do away with many laws that most people support. Including:

  • Bans on Partial Birth Abortion
  • Requirements that women be given information about the risks of getting an abortion
  • Only licensed physicians can perform abortions
  • Parents must be informed and give consent to their minor daughter's abortion

I had to have a parent's permission slip just to watch a PG-13 movie in school. Now children can have abortions without their parent's guidance and support? There is a great website called fightfoca.com which is devoted to stopping this horrible bill.  This is personal to me as a future women's health professional, I hope that I will never to be REQUIRED to perform abortions. Please research this and let YOUR voice be heard.

I've come down with something

Dear Neil Diamond,
I can't eat. I can't sleep. I cannot take off my Neil shirt. "Sweet Caroline" is on constant replay in the back of my devoted mind. I can't keep on with this. I have responsibilities. School. Husband. Family. Something has to be done. I've got to scratch this itch. Perhaps just one more concert will do the trick. My family seems to have recovered. During Christmas you only came up a few times. I had to keep reminding myself to play it cool. I can see it in Linda's eyes. She is suffering as well. Please return. I need you.
Your #1 fan,
Che'Lyn

P.S. What kind of WD40 are you putting on those hips of yours? Im-press-ive
