'Tis the Season

Eli. A powerful man in the Clark family. When my Grandma was serving her mission in Nauvoo, there was a young performance missionary serving at the same time whom we all fell in love with. We attended his performance of "Sunset on the Mississippi" every evening so that we could witness the squeaky voice, exaggerated tears, and all together smashing performance. Thanks to my observant Aunt Linda, we were able to reunite with Eli this year as he returned to the stage in "Pickleville Christmas"! Here are some photos of the event:

The show was fantastic and it was so much fun to spend the evening with my family. I love this time of year and I am so happy that finals are over and I can go home and celebrate with the people I love. Merry Christmas everyone!

Marital Discontent

The fight. The reoccuring, pointing fingers, been arguing about this for three years fight. You know... Every marriage has one. Ours? Who continues to put the water purifier in the fridge without water?!

It has sat like this for two weeks with the two of us casting glaring looks every time we open the fridge. How long will it be this way? Until Landon fills it. What is yours?

Anniversary?!

No.... but that did not stop us from staying here last night on a little staycation.

It was so much fun. We stayed in this fantastic room and slept in late this morning (missing school and work) Have you ever stayed in a theme room?! This is me... recommending it.
p.s. happy Veteran's Day Lanny!

It was a beautiful fall day on Sunday. These two:

It was a great day. A sense the cold breeze on your cheek, adore the beautiful leaves, feel your sweetie's hand in yours kind of day. I ♥ those kind.

Coming Out of the Closet

I have been lying to you. I have been lying to ALL of you. It's time I get this off of my chest. My hair is not naturally brown. It may have been at one time. But it is no longer. The truth is... my hair is gray. Full on... get a perm, fluff it in the morning, gray. I don't know how you are all going to react to this. If you choose not to befriend me any longer, I understand. I just need you to know me for what I really am. Take it, or leave it.

Not convinced? Check this picture out. ( by the way... I am 22 ) Dang you parents and these stupid genes.

p.s. here is what is going on at the Fullmer residence this weekend. Loads of it. Bored? Come on over. There is always room for one more.

One year older and wiser too...

Happy Birthday to you! Today is Landon's 26th birthday. That's right, he just fell off the fence and is now closer to 30 than 20. Rough. We both had early classes and so we were able to spend the whole day together. It was BEAUTIFUL weather here in the SLC so we headed to Wheeler Farm to see the animals and enjoy the sunshine!

Landon was, (as always) spoiled today. He got a pair of jeans, two pairs of shoes and a new board game. Last year I did 25 years of Landon's life, I think this year I will do 26 things you may not know about Landon:

1: He wears women's socks (they are pink and fluffy)
2: He hates math
3: He thinks Belle is the prettiest princess
4: He does not like popcorn (except for caramel)
5: He does valet parking on the weekends
6: He once followed Jessica Simpson through an airport (while he was married, I might add)
7: He smiles with his mouth closed
8: He gets terrible canker sores
9: He hates little dogs
10: He tries to predict the day before who will remember his birthday
11: He thinks desserts are healthy if they are homeade
12: He is scared of squirrels
13: He cries every single week during Extreme Home Makeover (and occasionally during the Biggest Loser)
14: He LOVES the water and hopes to be reincarnated as a fish
15: He always holds off his homework, essays and exams until the last minute because he knows that I will do them for him
16: He gets really grossed out by blood
17: He always wants me to come into the bathroom to see his bowel movements and he thinks it's rude that I never will
18: He gets super excited when the new weekly ads are released for our favorite grocery stores and he raids the mail room garbage cans for disposed coupons (he will call me at school if he finds some good ones).
19: He consistently diagnoses himself when he starts to feel ill. So far the poor guy has had elephantitis (cramping muscle) the Swine Flu (small cold), leukemia (tired), subdural hematoma (headache), and multiple fractures (none to speak of).
20: He blog stalks... if you are reading this, he reads your blog. And he probably quotes it to me afterward.
21: He is a business major, but dreams of being a radiology tech. (?)
22: He really wants a baby. Once when we were talking about it he went silent for a few minutes and then said, "I just said a prayer in my heart and I felt warm." It was cute.
23: He asks me if he looks fat in his jeans all the time, and he is serious.
24: He loves to be scruffy, but hates it when he starts to get a mustache.
25: He always has dry earlobes.
26: He is humming the theme song for Titanic right now. I just asked him about it, he looked at me with sad eyes and said, "Well, I go into deep depression when the Jazz lose."

That's my Lanny, the good, the bad and the UGLY. Trust me, there is a lot of all of those. Without being too sappy, let's just say: if anything ever happened to this guy I would lose my entire life.

Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

A day late and a dollar short

That's how I feel about my blog lately. I'm sure you know what I mean... THE phase, the one where you are busy and you let your blog fall behind, so then when you get time to update it you think, "Well gee, it's so far behind anyway. I don't even know what to write about." Well, I'm stopping the nonsense and bringing you an update. (like you really care) School has been crazy. I mean pull my hair out, cry hysterically, feel inferior kind of crazy. Which brings me to the best thing ever: fall break. As you already know, I was able to go back to Idaho for the first time in 5 months! I just happened to be so lucky that spud harvest was going on... and even luckier that my in-laws wanted to come up and see what this "harvest" business was all about.
We had a blast while we were there. We stayed with my grandma most of the time in her bed and breakfast and she was a great host. She fed us breakfast every morning and kept everyone laughing with her witty, little personality. This woman is amazing. Super. Star. Grandma. Someday I want to be just like her.

We had a Big J's feast and Spades tournament one night. The teams? Neil and Cortney. Sid and Di-izzle, Judd and Susan and yours and mine truly. Need I really tell you the results? I don't think so. Let the best couple win. Which we did.

My girls

Thanks Fullmers for coming up to visit! We had a blast and I loved showing you around my old stompin' ground. I'm so lucky to have you... don't think I don't know it.

And best of all..... that's right. Rotten potato flinging, dirt clod stompin', truck backer upper Che'. That's the part I got to play all week and I absolutely loved it. It was good to connect with my roots.

Back to reality... It was my "lamp of learning" last night where they pin all of the new inductees into the college of nursing. My parents drove up to it and it was fun to show them around the school and introduce them to my classmates.

The dean and president of the alumni association

This is my good friend Carly, her and I completed our prerequisites together in Orem and were lucky enough to both be accepted at the U. Her friendship has gotten me through many an exam, cram session or hysterical moment. She's my little academic rock.

Last but most certainly not least, thank you Mom and Dad for driving down to support me. While I'm at it, thanks for the constant reassurance and pushing in the right direction. It's so nice to always have people in my corner. I appreciate you more than you will ever know, and that I mean. (and of course... there is Landon in the background, it just goes without saying that he frequented the occasion. Where would I be w/out him? I shudder to think.)

Melancholy

Somethings just make no sense. Like how I love the smell of potatoes and dirt, or how a nose full of brown boogers make me smile. Why on earth would the feeling of freezing fingers warm my heart? I love the convenience of the city: with the stores, restaurants and entertainment a street away. But no matter how much I try to convince myself otherwise: there really is nothing quite like spud harvest.

Side Effects=no motivation

Pathophysiology....fine. Fundamentals.... fine. Clinicals.... super. Pharmacology.... shoot myself in the arm. I have never been so overwhelmed with information in my life. First pharm test tomorrow=stress overload for me. Hats off to all you pharmacists out there. I have new found respect.

Cheap Shots

I am finding in nursing school that things which we normally assess as "not normal" are completely normal. For instance, catheters.... not normal, or normal? Bed baths, normal... or not so much? Enemas? My list could go on and on... but rather than disgust you and discourage you from coming back to my blog until I graduate I will elaborate on my favorite of "not normal" tasks.... poking people with a long, sharp object.

Yesterday my clinical group was assigned the flu clinic rotation at TOSH hospital. While it was terrifying and intimidating at some level, the experience was funnier than most. Brand new nurses are awesome, we are scared and clueless, yet trying to act professional while we roll up your sleeve and prepare our syringe.

Take this shot for example... meet Anna (the shotter) and Katherine (the shotee). While Anna did a swell job at inserting the needle, she let the trauma get the best of her and started shaking profusely right after I took this picture. As a result, Katherine's arm (and the vaccine) were flying all over the place and Anna frantically yelled, "What should I do?!" while the group laughed hysterically at the twosome's unusual dilemma.

Or how about this shot? This is me... and that little pregnant villain holding her needle like a dart is Hailey. We were warned in advance against two common, anxious shot giving techniques: shaking and performing morse code on someone's arm with the tip of your needle, or lunging into position... with one foot forward for leverage as your hurl your dart/syringe into the unsuspecting victim's arm. Hailey performed the second:

and I performed the first....

All in all it was a great experience and we each probably terrorized about 50 people. I am loving my clinical group and the experience of school as a whole. I am meeting so many new friends and learning so much. Need a technique performed that is a little "not normal?" Give me a call... I'm a professional. Disclaimer: Whatever may happen to you during said procedure is not my responsibility. It is yours... I clearly can't back up my practice
